Pakistan army gives militants border access, orders targeting of security personnel in India: Intelligence Reports

 

 India has stepped up vigil along the Line of Control and international border in Jammu and Kashmir following intelligence reports indicating that Pakistan has decided to grant easy access to the militants seeking to cross over into the country.  The reports generated by Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) and Intelligence Bureau a day after the Gurdaspur terrorist attack in Punjab on Monday suggest that Pakistan has decided to do away with its earlier policy of restricting the movement of militants and Pakistan Rangers could now provide support and logistics to militants, officials said.  This increases the probability of infiltration in large numbers and increase in attacks at border for the next two months, they said.  According to the reports, Pakistan Army had called a meeting of Pakistan Rangers and other security forces at Sialkot on July 17. At this meeting, Pakistan's security establishment took cognisance of the purported Indian drone flying over its air space on July 15 and killing of six civilians during shelling on international border on July 16..Although India has denied Pakistan's claim that the drone was Indian, the reports say that Pakistan army also directed its Border Area Tactical (BAT) teams to be given access to border areas. BAT was reportedly involved in beheading of Indian Army jawans in 2013.
 The government suspects that it was after this meeting that militant groups carried out the attack in Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district and had plans to target civil lines in Gurdaspur. This was also confirmed from the two GPS coordinates that the terrorists killed in Dinanagar were carrying.  The Centre has alerted Punjab government and state police after inputs indicated that a section of Pakistan army is keen to activate militancy and attacks in Punjab.  This, according to intelligence agencies, could be because of the fact that the border in Jammu and Kashmir is heavily guarded.
 The reports indicate that Pakistan army has given clear instructions to target more and more security personnel in India. This, many believe, is to derail the peace initiative taken by the PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart Nawaz Sharif during their meeting at Ufa in Russia earlier this month.  No militant group attended the meeting in Sialkot, according to the reports, probably to allow the Pakistan army to maintain that it has nothing to do with the terrorist attacks carried out in india.
