Iran launches fighter jet squadron: report

(Xinhua) -- An Iranian commander said Saturday that Iran's Air Force has launched a squadron of domestically- built Saeqheh (Thunderbolt) fighter jets, the English language satellite Press TV reported.
"The production of this kind of aircraft has been developing at high speed, and a squadron of these fighter jets has been launched, " Deputy Commander for Operations of Iran's Air Force General Mohammad Alavi was quoted as saying.
The experts have managed to mass-produce the fighter jets which were outfitted with revamped equipment and well prepared to defend the skies of the country, Alavi said according to the report.
He said that the Islamic Republic has also produced ultra-heavy bombs with huge tonnage and high destructive capabilities, said the report.
These bombs are also capable of pinpointing objects, he added.
The Iranian Army has successfully ended the first stage of the mass-production of the bombs and it was now working to upgrade their efficiency, the commander said without further elaboration.
On Saturday, Iran announced that several types of Iranian Air Force fighter jets will take part in an aerial parade in the next two weeks but it did not specify where the parade would be held.
